Torey Alston

President and Chief Executive Officer

Torey Alston is a nationally renowned, higher education leader, bringing to the role a career built across Florida's transportation, public administration, and compliance systems. That breadth, paired with prior service as Board Chairman of the School Board of Broward County and on the Florida A&M University Board of Trustees, shapes how he leads a public institution of higher learning today.

Background

Torey Alston leads Broward College as President and Chief Executive Officer, a position he took on in February 2025 after a career spent largely outside the classroom but close to the systems that make public institutions run. Before coming to the college, he was Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Miami Expressway Agency and Chief of Staff and Chief Operating Officer at the Florida Department of Transportation, work that required him to manage large public budgets, infrastructure priorities, and the compliance obligations that come with them.

His path to higher education leadership was never far off. He served on the Florida A&M University Board of Trustees from 2010, chairing its Student Affairs Committee and later its Governance Committee, and he chaired the School Board of Broward County from 2022 to 2024. Those years gave him a working knowledge of accreditation, governance, and the politics of public education boards well before he sat in a president's chair.

Alston's earlier roles in economic opportunity and compliance, at Miami-Dade County Public Schools, the City of Gainesville, and the State of Florida, gave him a grounding in access and equal opportunity administration that now informs how he thinks about student opportunity at Broward College. He holds a Certified Compliance Administrator credential and a Certified ADA Coordinator certification, along with a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, credentials that reflect an operational habit of mind.

He earned his bachelor's and MBA from Florida A&M University, after graduating from Blanche Ely High School in Pompano Beach, and he lives in Broward County, where his career has returned him to lead one of its public institutions.
